EVETTS, William.

Born at Tackley Park, Thame, Oxfordshire, 30th June 1847.
Died at Hill Court, Tackley, Thame, Oxfordshire, 7th April 1936.
The son of E.Evetts, of Thackley Park, Oxfordshire, he was educated at Harrow, where he was a member of the cricket eleven 1864-65 and the football eleven 1865. He went up to Brasenose College, Oxford, and was a member of the University cricket eleven 1868-69, winning his blue both years. In all he played in 22 first-class matches, the last being for the MCC in 1882. His county cricket was for Buckinghamshire 1865-68. His grandson Julian Arthur also played for Oxford University in 1933. He gained his B.A. in 1870 and went into business in Oxford as a brewer with Hall & Co.
At the time of the 1881 Census he is living at 17 Paradise Street, Oxford, aged 33, a managing partner in a brewery firm. Also present are his five sons, John E. aged 5, Harry aged 3, Arthur F. aged 2, Herbert aged 1, and Wilfrid A. 7 months. There are six domestic servants. His wife is absent – presumably having a rest.
